10 years ago this year The Merchant, Scarborough’s Irish bar, opened in the heart of this wonderful seaside town. The vision was to create a place that was traditionally Irish, less about the shamrocks (although of course, they pop up sometimes!) and more about the community, the craic and the music – a place where everybody feels comfortable whether 18 or 80. The kind of pub you find in small towns all over Ireland.
That was achieved, that and more. The Merchant has become synonymous with a great night out, it has become a meeting place for musicians and a home from home for many customers who enjoy the special atmosphere and indefinable ‘something’ that The Merchant has to offer.
This year to mark the 10th anniversary, The Merchant is undergoing a major renovation, to take the pub forward for the next 10 years. Without giving too much away before the launch, it is safe to say that the special atmosphere will remain unchanged, however an exciting facelift of the bar and toilets will make The Merchant an even more pleasant place to while away the hours with a pint of Guinness, a bit of music and a roaring fire.
The relaunch will be in tile for the 10th birthday weekend of celebrations that will begin on Friday Oct 31st. We cannot wait to see you there, and sincerely thank you for your custom over the last 10 fun filled years.
